Melanie Trump discredits GQ magazine

"The article published in GQ today is yet another example of the dishonest media and their disingenuous reporting. Julia Ioffe, a journalist who is looking to make a name for herself, clearly had an agenda when going after my family. There are numerous inaccuracies in this article including certain statements about my family and claims on personal matters. My parents are private citizens and should not be subject to Ms. Ioffe’s unfair scrutiny.
Furthermore, the statement surrounding the performance of my skincare collection is completely false. The company in which I was involved with did not honor the contract and did not meet their obligations and as such the courts ruled in my favor.
I am hopeful that the media will begin to cover me fairly and be respectful of my family's privacy.”

Fayose account frozen by EFCC

Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of freezing his personal account at Zenith Bank.

Fayose had earlier raised an alarm that the federal government had concluded the alleged plans to use the anti-graft agency to destabilise Ekiti with the aim of impeaching him.

In a message on his Twitter handle, the governor blamed President Muhammadu Buhari for the restriction on his account.

“My personal Account at Zenith Bank has been frozen courtesy of Buhari led APC tyrannical government,” he wrote.

Efforts to confirm the claim from Wilson Uwujaren, spokesman of the EFCC, did not yield any result, as his phone rang out and he has not replied the text message sent.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Sunday, Fayose described the current administration’s fight against corruption as “muzzling of the opposition”.

He said some members of his cabinet and prominent chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti had been “penciled down for arrest”.

“A few days ago, we got it on good authority that there was a meeting with some politicians from Ekiti State, including an Ekiti born Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and self-professed human rights activist by agents of the Federal government, with the agenda solely, on how to bring down my administration as the governor of the state,” he had said.

“Activities of these elements that are obviously afraid of facing another electoral defeat in 2018 are being coordinated through the office of the secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), Mr Babachir Lawal and the attorney general of the federation.

“Certain top functionaries of the Ekiti state government and some important members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, and some associates of mine, have now been penciled down for arrest and indefinite detention by the EFCC under the guise of investigating the funds spent by the PDP on the June 21, 2014 governorship election and the Presidential election.

“The game plan is to make those to be arrested get detained indefinitely, forced them to make statements incriminating me, while at the same time feeding the public with orchestrated fake reports, using their usual media organs.

“This is coming after their failure to use the Department of State Services (DSS) to coerced members of the State House of Assembly to buy into the impeachment plot against me with a view to silencing me being a major voice of the opposition.

“To achieve this sinister plot against the government and people of Ekiti State, we have been informed that some of their trusted allies in the EFCC have been mobilised to move to Ekiti any moment from now.”

Saraki and Ekweremmadu to be arraigned tomorrow

ABUJA – Barring last minute intervention, the embattled Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, are scheduled for arraignment before an Abuja High Court sitting at Jabi on Tuesday, on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and forgery. The Federal Government, through the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, accused the duo of complicity in alleged forgery of the Senate Standing Orders, 2015. They were charged alongside the former Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa and his deputy, Mr. Benedict Efeturi. Senate President Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu, the Deputy President of the Senate The alleged bogus Standing Order was used to conduct the July 9, 2015, election through which both Saraki and Ekweremadu emerged. The two lawmakers and their co-defendants are scheduled to enter their plea before trial Justice Yusuf Halilu. FG maintained that they had by their conduct, committed an offence punishable under Section 97 (1) and 364 of the Penal Code Act. Specifically, the charge against the defendants, with suit No. CR/219/16, read: “That you, Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa, Benedict Efeturi, Dr. Olubukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu, on or about, the 9th of June, 2015, at the National Assembly complex, Three Arms Zone, Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this court, conspired amongst yourselves to forge the Senate Standing Order, 2011 (as amended) and you thereby committed the offence of conspiracy, punishable under Section 97 (1) of the Penal Code Law. “That you, Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa, Benedict Efeturi, Dr. Olubukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu, on or about the 9th of June, 2015, at the National Assembly complex, Three Arms Zone, Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this court, with fraudulent intent, forged the Senate Standing Order 2011 (as amended), causing it to be believed as the genuine Standing Order, 2015 and circulated same for use during the inauguration of the 8th Senate of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria when you knew that the said Order was not made in compliance with the procedure for amendment of the Senate Order. You thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 364 of the Penal Code Law.” The charge was a fallout of investigation police conducted into a petition by a group of lawmakers under the aegis of the Senate Unity Forum, SUF, who alleged that the Standing Order used for the July 9, 2015, election of principal officers for the 8th Senate, was doctored. Earlier, five members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Senate, Abu Ibrahim, Kabir Marafa, Ajayi Boroffice, Olugbenga Ashafa and Suleiman Hunkuyi, in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/651/2015, sought the removal of Saraki and Ekweremadu. ‎The plaintiffs prayed the court to sack the duo on the premise that the version of the Senate Standing Orders that was used for their election was forged. In their suit dated July 27, 2015, the plaintiffs, contended that ‎allowing Saraki and Ekweremadu to continue to pilot the affairs of the Senate regardless of the fact that they emerged through an act of illegality, would on itself amount to corruption. ‎Cited as defendants in the suit were Saraki, Ekweremadu, the National Assembly and Clerks of the National Assembly. Though the court had concluded hearing on the matter, however, Ekweremadu, filed a petition before the Chief Judge of the high court, Justice Ibrahim Auta, alleging bias against the judge that handled the case, Justice Ademola Adeniyi. In his petition dated December 18, 2015, Ekweremadu, insisted that Justice Adeniyi was closely related to some chieftain‎s of the APC. He specifically identified the national leader ‎of the party and former governor of Lagos State, Ahmed Bola Tinubu as one of the people he said has personal relationship with the Judge. Ekweremadu queried the ability of Justice Adeniyi ‎to deliver an objective verdict on the matter in view of his alleged closeness with the APC- the party the plaintiffs belong to. Meantime, following the petition which was filed four days after the suit was fixed for judgment, the CJ, re-assigned the case to another Judge, Justice Evoh Chukwu. Nevertheless, Justice Chukwu died earlier this month, thus leaving the case hanging, waiting to be re-assigned to another Judge. Meantime, there were indications on Monday that the lawmakers may not appear before the court for arraignment on Tuesday as billed. A source in the legal team of the Senate President told Vanguard that Saraki had yet to receive a copy of the said charge against him. According to the source who pleaded anonymity because he was not permitted to speak on the matter, “I can tell you that as we speak, the Senate President has not been served with any charge. “How do you expect that someone will appear before a court for arraignment on a mere speculative charge? “Even if he is served today, the law permits him to study the contents of the charge as well as to make necessary arrangements with his lawyers for his defence. “So far as I know, the only case our client has on Tuesday is before the Code of Conduct Tribunal where he is scheduled to further cross-examine the lead witness of the Federal Government, Micheal Wetkas. “Apart from that 16-count charge before the CCT, we are not aware of any other charge against out client before any court”, the source added
